Weston County Sportsman’s Club’s NRA Basic
Pistol Class
This versatile two day class is an excellent starting point for all
shooters as well as first responders, teachers and others who might want a
basic class to increase their awareness and understanding of pistols.
We will be covering safety, basic parts of a pistol and their operation
and much more.
This class will conclude with a live fire session at our indoor range.
Also, this class counts for your Wyoming Conceal Carry Permit!
We are lucky to be one of a growing list of states with constitutional,
permit-less carry. However, there are some nasty “gotchas” that a CCP can
help you avoid, as well as being able to carry in most other states and
simplified firearms purchases.
Ladies:
We are pleased to have Christina Johnson as part of our instructor team.
In addition to helping teach our class she will be available to help you
personally with any questions or issues that you might have.
Considering your first handgun?
Don’t buy one yet! We will have both revolvers and semiautos in different
sizes and calibers that you can use for the live fire session. Find out
what works for you before you buy.

The work we have done so far:
In 2023 Weston County Sportsman’s Club was
approached by a member with an offer to have his company fund the training
of NRA instructors. The goal was to start a training program and establish
WCSC as a center for learning about firearms in our community. This works
directly with the club’s goals and purpose; how could we say no?
“The Basic Pistol Class program will also help fill Weston County
Sportsman’s Club’s larger, long-term goals by reducing the barriers to
basic training and expanding the safe, effective, and common use of
firearms in our community for the purposes of sporting, hunting,
self-defense, and defense against a tyrannical government as a natural
right described by the 2nd amendment.”
In fall of 2023 Neil Gesuero, whom is already an NRA instructor, arranged
for a group of club members to be trained as NRA instructors.
Eric Johnson, Christina Johnson, Doug Keierleber, and Jerry Feddersen
completed this training and became certified NRA instructors for the Basic
Pistol class and will be joining Neil as our new training team.
Over the winter of 2023-24 we worked to secure more funding to lower the
cost of the class while keeping the student to instructor ratio high. We
also investigated getting additional equipment to make the class as safe
and comfortable a learning environment as possible. I am pleased to
announce that we have been very successful!
We have been awarded an NRA Foundation grant that has paid for much of the
equipment, including things like electronic hearing protection for the
entire class, shootn’see style targets and classroom materials.
A member has donated a 50” TV that I am in the process of getting mounted
on the classroom wall. This will be much better for seeing the class
material with the lights on than a projector ever would be!
Our initial donor also gave us additional funds that will be used to
offset our insurance costs and keep our per student cost around $50.00 per
student.
